RETIREMENT
Who may call himself/herself a pensionado?
This agreement offers the retired foreigner a special taxation over
his/hers foreign income. To be eligible he or she needs to be:
- a citizen on one of the Netherlands Antilles: Curaçao,
Bonaire, St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius
- precedent the application not have lived on one of the islands
for a minimum of 5 years
- within 18 months of settling own a house with a value of at
least ANG 450,000,-

Foreign income sources taxed at a 10% rate
When an immigrant complies to all conditions, all foreign income
sources like pension, dividends, interests are taxed at a 10 % rate.
Maximum tax amount is ANG 261.000,-

income sources include income generated from an off-shore company,
interests from deposits on local banks and income from house letting.
Labor on the Netherlands Antilles
A pensionado is allowed to work on the Antilles but only for a company
he participating for at least 40%. Income from this labor are taxable
for the normal, local rate. The pensionado risks the loss of his
pensionado status when he works for a company when he owns less
of the 40 % stock.
Gifts- and succession taxes
Besides a very attractive income tax system, living on the Netherlands
Antilles has significant advantages for gifts- and succession taxes.
The Maximum rate for gifts to children or grand children is 6%.
Foreigners need to live on the islands for a minimum of one year
to be eligible.
Financial Advise
Important accountant and tax advice companies hold offices on Curaçao
like PriceWaterhouseCoopers en ING. The same goes for banks. A couple
of banks only concentrate on off-shore activities but pensionados
can always use them.
Apart from this, on the Antilles are many trust companies specializing
administrative handling, private wealth management and investment
advise. Also many banks have their own trust company on the islands.
