| The education system in Curaçao
is comparable to the Dutch system. According to an Eduction
law since the 1st of january 1992, all childeren have to attend
school for a period of 9 years.
There are are some kindergardens and primairy
schools from which a few are Dutch spoken, as well as secondairy
schools with all common entry levels.
There are also a few English spoken schools
with a variety of levels from kindergarden to highschool.
These are private schools which are at ones own expenses.
In Curaçao the new schoolyear generally starts
in the second week of August.
The University of the Netherlands Antilles (UNA)
has 4 faculties.
Social-Economical which requires highschool
as a level of entry.
Law which requires a bachelor degree to participate.
Technical which requires highschool with
minimal Math and Physics to enter.
General which again minimally requires highschool
as a level of entry.
St. Martinus University is a private university
with a medical faculty. The classes are in English and completion
takes 4 to 5 years. Entry possible at Highschool or Bachelor level.
Caribbean International University is a private
university which is mainly Spanish spoken
There are several verbal and written courses
to attend. There is even a Antillian variety of NTI
(Dutch Language Institute) .
